Sorry for the silence. Will and I have been under the weather. Currently, I’m curled up on the couch binging on Netflix and Kleenex. But, I thought I would take a break from “How I Met Your Mother”—I’m not particularly fond of the last season—to let you in on my current obsession: the capsule wardrobe!
Back in May I discovered Caroline’s blog, Unfancy, and her Wardrobe Planner. It’s gold! It’s been great because Will and I are in a place where we are trying to be smart about the clothes we buy but we can’t be frivolous with our purchases; we have neither the budget nor the space. Now, having gone through the planner, I have more direction when I’m shopping and I don’t feel guilty for buying something because I know exactly what gap it’s going to fill and why.
So, here’s my inspiration for my capsule wardrobe:
I’ve already gone through my closet and have gotten rid of a lot of clothes, but what I still have hasn’t left me high and dry. I still have a few pieces I need to get, but am pretty happy with what I’ve got. I’ve already noticed a difference in my confidence while shopping. It’s easier for me to say “no” to distractions and I’m more conscious of the quality and longevity of clothes I purchase. And picking out an outfit in the morning has never been easier! PTL because I legitimately don’t have the time.
I’m going to try to stick to Caroline’s 37 pieces but make it work for both autumn and winter (give or take a few since it’s for two seasons). The weather is pretty much the same so I’ll just have to switch out a few pieces come winter. Did you know that winter technically starts December 21st?
Part of me feels weird to have spent so much time and energy on my wardrobe; almost like I care too much about my clothes. But, the whole point of having the capsule wardrobe is so that in then end I’m not spending so much time and energy on what I’m wearing! It all works out.
Has anyone else jumped on the capsule wardrobe bandwagon?!
