Work’n It

I promised an explanation as to why I haven’t been blogging as much lately and here it is…

I GOT A JOB!!!

Go me!

I work for one of the temp agencies I’d signed up with. They needed some help for one of their departments and since my CV wasn’t having any luck they took a chance on me and asked if I would be support staff for them while they were in the process of hiring someone more permanent to help the guy out in my department. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Jackie, YOU can be that permanent person.” Um, no. What they need is a consultant but right now they have me… which is so far from what they need. It started off as a two week post but it’s turned into 4 and there may be a 5th week.
I’ve loved walking to work with the 8a rush and joining back up with them at 5. And my coworkers have been an absolute blast to work with! They’ve been teaching me Irish sayings, like, “what’s the craic?” (“how’s it going?”) and “whack that on over here” (“pass that over”). I love it!
It’s been a breath of fresh air to be around people all day too. Oh man I was starting to go crazy not having people to talk to. I was going all “castaway” on Will some days. Poor guy.
Oh, and another part of the job I like… getting dressed up! I’m loving being able to wear decent clothes and not worry about bodily fluids getting on them! Here’s my “first day of my first Scottish job outfit in a new career outfit”

As you can guess I’ve been struggling to find the time to blog; or do anything else I had done prior to getting a job. I don’t have as much time to knit (did I tell you I picked up knitting? I have a post on that in the making), go to the gym, or even cook. I haven’t worked a mon-fri/8-5 job since 2003. I miss having my weekdays off; especially since stores are closed by 6p here.
But it’s all good. The sun hasn’t been setting ’til after 8p so having the extra daylight is nice!

So, now I’ve met new people (and I think they like me!), I’m making some money for us (this job is paying for our tickets back home!), I can put “Administrative Assistant” on my CV (to make myself more marketable), and I can add two local references! God is so good! Absolutely amazing!

 1 I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

  2. Hi Jackie. I love your blog!! I just moved to London for love and was wondering if you could let me know how you found a job! I’m having a bit of a hard time and it seems like your job is AWESOME! At least your Christmas parties ;)

    • Well, my job isn’t my ideal job but it definitely has its perks! But it took me 6 months to find a job and that was temporary through a temp agency. Then it wasn’t until I went to another temp agency, 2 months later, where I got a job by the end of that week! I had heard good things about this agency and they totally came through. Good luck! It’s not easy but it’s not impossible too!
